The work submitted is mainly from recent projects on Art Foundation. The documentary images are from a series taken over 2 weeks whereby I ended up with one image per day, documenting my life. I wanted to create a miniature 365 project to document my life. I used a 50mm f1.8 lens during the project and became more considerate with the composition and focus. My flower images are from my current project based on abstract/abstraction. A lot of my work is narrative or documentary and I wanted to experiment and push my skills further. I’m still using a 50mm lens but I’m much more experimental with it as I’m not relying on Photoshop. It has become so easy to create imagery through Photoshop and I want to challenge that. To do this, I used extension tubes and looked at how various materials such as dye and icing sugar can affect the image. The dancing images are examples of some of work done outside of my studies. Having danced from a young age and recently stopping, I find photographing my schools dancing shows and doing CV shots a valuable experience. It also allows me to mix my passion for both photography and dance. The final image was taken during my first 365 project. I chose to include it as I think it’s one of the best ones from my 365 and to show some variety. I’m currently doing a 365 project for 2012 as I enjoy the freedom of it.
In order to improve I need to take risks and being at MMU would allow me to do that. The art school has a high reputation and a good working atmosphere: the degree show always proves this as it is inspiring and interesting. Also, living near Manchester, I know that it has a lot to offer in terms of inspiration and research; I think it’s a lovely city and I enjoy being there. I am a hard-working, friendly girl and I enjoy learning and experimenting with new things.
